Kite buggying - boarding: Les Hemmes, France Wind Direction: NE Wind Stength: 15-20mph Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: 14 Sea Temperature: Weather: Overcast but windy Max Speed: 36.8mph (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 40 miles + (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
After the previous day of light winds it was nice to arrive to see a nice
15mph onshore wind. Hit the beach with the 4.5m Century, got up some good
speeds in the low 30s. We decided to head down to Calais, great sand as far
as the watertower/lighthouse thing then it got softer, eventually got to
the old hoverport at Calais which is about 6 miles west of the car. Ended
up on the concrete hoverport landing strip which was a bit scary, saw a
dead seal that had been washed up and then headed back. Struggled back as
the wind had died but made it eventually, wind then picked up and got some
very fast runs on the hard sand with a max of 36.8mph. The Century can cut
so far upwind and when you build up speed you can head so far downwind it
was great.
Stopped for a late lunch, changed down to 3.4m after lunch and headed east,
I got as far as a line of wooden posts 3.4 miles from the car, you can go
further than this if you weave between the posts so we will do that next
time (after the summer restrictions have been lifted).
Met Badger and a few others.
Had some GPS issues with batteries so missed some miles on the GPS.
All in all an excellent day where we covered about 9 miles of beach from
end to end.
